Static Route

I have two routers

192.168.45.1

and

192.168.75.1

Its setup like this

I
192.168.45.1
I
I
192.168.75.1

I setup a static route on my 45.1 router but it only works when i set the 75.1 router to Router instead of Gateway, but at that point i cant access internet from 75.1 why is this?
