PPTP password limitation

A long time ago, in a forum far far away, a limitation was found in the gui, an inability to use special characters #$%^etc in the pptp password. Editing the chap-secrets file and inserting those characters would fix this limit, but only until the next reboot.
Is there any permanent fix for this gui limitation ?
