Current USB 3G modem support?

I've been away from the forum for a while because, well, my E3000 router just worked perfectly and didn't feel the need to change anything. But now I've moved to a place where the only internet is via 3G. I'm currently using

I remember reading about a few people who'd got USB 3G modems working... but can't seem to find the threads.

Can anyone tell me what is the current state of support for USB 3G modems used as a WAN? Specifically I have the Huawei E173 modem, but could probably get others...
